Kelly Paige Standard is a native San Diegan. She’s a traditional oil painter with a fine art degree from UC Santa Barbara. Upon graduating in 1995, she moved back to San Diego where she took a job at Robson Gallery, downtown in the Gaslamp Quarter. There she obtained a less analytical, more applicable kind of knowledge about the art world.
After a couple of years experience at the gallery, Kelly
moved on to using her skills in various digital mediums
providing high resolution, hand painted textures for entertainment
software. The death of her younger brother in 2002 fueled
her decision to make a change, and to live her life (full-time)
as the fine artist she's always been. With her world turned
completely sideways, she found she needed the power and
freedom of oil painting to constructively release her deepest
agonies, both painful and joyful. Kelly paints to contend
with the messiest parts of being human. Often labeled too
sensitive, she's come to realize that art is her place
to be sensitive, to go ahead and feel things hugely, and
to try to express the inexpressible.
Kelly possesses an uncanny ability to instantly connect
with the viewer through composition, mood, and an undeniable
passion found in her work. Regardless of what she chooses
to paint, her work always reflects her fondness of light
and color, and her tranquil ability to simply capture the
essence of her focus.
